The vast majority of time for addiction treatment is using non-pharmacologic modalities. Most structured treatment is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while much of most encounters with patients with substance use disorder involves Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a core communication style, as well as therapy. This session reviews common terminology and concepts in CBT and MI, while also touching upon other evidence based modalities like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Network Therapies, and case management as they relate to addiction treatment.
