Track 4: Radical Regeneration: Business, Policy and Adaptation in Urban and Rural Communities
Vivian Manasc, LLD [Hon], AOE, Architect AAA, MBA, FRAIC, LEED AP
This session is approved for 1.5 LU | HSW.
This session explores how historic places and resources are being renewed and ‘reimagined’ in the province of Alberta and elsewhere. It begins with a discussion of the Alberta context by one of the province’s best-known architects, whose practice focuses on reusing and reimagining existing buildings and sites. The themes of renewal and regeneration are then explored at three scales, through presentations about opportunities and best practices related to the conservation of neon signage, stewardship of municipally owned historic properties in the City of Calgary, and neighbourhood regeneration in Edmonton.
