Track 3: Climate and Heritage in Crisis: Integrating Old and New in Buildings and Communities
This session has been approved 1.5 LU | HSW.
This session will look at case studies of heritage sites (an 18th century lodge and two modern hospitals) completing thermal upgrades to improve their thermal efficiency, without detracting from the original aesthetics. As part of the evaluation of these cases, detailed assessment completed to determine the existing energy efficiency and the impact of the completed upgrades.
Moving on from these case studies, we will also look at a method to measure the in-situ moisture content of the façade, specifically as the potential result of changes to the HVAC systems.
Last, when historic sites are rehabilitated to improve energy efficiency, the impact to overall indoor environmental quality (IEQ) is sometimes overlooked. To determine the impact of completed rehabilitations, a toolkit and methodology to evaluate IEQ is needed.
