Track 1: Picturing the Past: Heritage Documentation, Diagnostics, and Modeling
This session has been approved for 1.5 LU | HSW.
The case studies in this session prove that the method of recording a building, system or feature is not an inconsequential decision. With myriad means and technologies available to achieve this, the preservation professional must exercise best judgment to determine a documentation strategy tailored to the needs of their project. Some examples in this session demonstrate that the innovative combination of older documentation methods and modern techniques can achieve a better understanding of the structure for the preservationist, engineer, conservator, and/or public than just one method alone. In other case, nothing beats using the “tried-and-true” traditional methods of recording-- especially when they yield better information than high-tech solutions. The combination of presentations in this track presents an interesting dialogue about selecting and merging recording methods to form unique documentation strategies.
