This session will inform participants about a variety of subjects relating to the conservation of masonry. Subjects include: The effects of air pressure in climate change and the presence or absence of plasters, Challenges in envelope conservation at the Ernest Cormier building in Montreal, Comparative performance evaluations of Natural Hydraulic Lime Mortars, and reflections on the Standards and Guidelines for Historic Places in regards to different masonry building underpinning technologies.

Learning Objectives:

• identify various contemporary, and future, challenges facing historic masonry structures
• use different approaches to tackle problems in historic masonry structures
• have a more full understanding of details required to solve difficulties facing historic masonry structures
• describe environmental factors that lead to problems in historic masonry structures
