Nigel Copsey

Conservator
Earth Stone & Lime Company and Associates

Nigel started out as a dry-stone waller in Cornwall and trained as stonemason and carver. A SPAB member and accredited Conservator-Restorer, he advocates for traditional materials in conservation and works with Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland, CADW, and international partners in conservation training. Nigel regularly delivers hot mixed earth and lime mortars and traditional skills training for the University of York. Nigel has a BA (Hons) in Political Science and an MA (by Research) from the University of York and a PGDip in Building Conservation from Bournemouth University. He has contributed to many technical guides and published a book on traditional mortars in 2019.
