85 - Kids Across the Line on Time’ Reducing Delays to Theatre
Description: How to assist our paediatrics patient to reduce anxiety and remove the fear factor of having a surgical procedure. Through this Clinical Practice Improvement project, the day surgery team have undertaken a steep learning curve to promote a reduction to the delays to theatre start on time and improve the paediatric surgical journey and reduce patient anxiety at the time of admission. We would like to share the paediatric project and the team's journey in learning Clinical Practice Improvement methodology. Children going to theatre can be quite anxious when it comes to being wheeled into an anaesthetic bay in a patient bed with strange people. "We are finding that the cars are definitely reducing kids' anxieties, and making them feel like coming to hospital can be a fun experience. This, in turn, is making the process of preparing children for surgery much easier on staff, and increasing efficiencies through fun interactive transportation to theatre."
