Description: This poster will review the 2020 changes made to the AORN Evidence Rating Model that is used in the Guidelines for Perioperative Practice. The AORN Nursing Practice Team spearheaded the change to the new model. Several different guideline models, the National Academies of Science 2011 publication, "Clinical Practice Guidelines We Can Trust", and the standards for guidelines set by the ECRI Trust were reviewed. Once a preliminary model was developed it was reviewed by the team for consistency with other models. The new model was accepted and put into place for the 2020 Guidelines for Perioperative Practice. The AORN Guideline for Surgical Attire and Guideline for Prevention of Hypothermia were the first guidelines published using the new model. For the January 2020 print edition of the Guidelines for Perioperative Practice all the guidelines will use the new model. The intended outcome is concise and clear recommendations for care of perioperative patients in the clinical setting. Implications for perioperative nursing include changes in the way clinical practice recommendations are written, rated, and implemented.
