32 - Implementation of Scott Triggers Tool to Reduce Pressure Injuries for a Community Hospital Operating Room
Description: Problem was identified as an increase in reported hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) attributed to the positioning in the operating room. The clinical question was determined to be “Does implementing Scott Triggers assessment tool and implementing additional skin protection measures result in a decrease in reported HAPIs attributed to the operating room?” A module using the Scott Triggers tool was created and added to the electronic medical record (EMR). Implementation using education and clinical risk assessment charting was rolled out to all OR RNs. Data on results is still be collected. Anticipated conclusion is the implementation of the tool in the EMR will increase communication of HAPI risk between OR RNs and reduce overall rate of HAPI attributed to the OR.
