196 - Operating Room Team Performance Incentive Program
Description: This project was designed to boost productivity in the Operating Room (OR) by promoting teamwork and efficiency. The OR staff including Certified Surgical Techs (CST), Register Nurse (RN), Surgical aides and Anesthesia techs had not been meeting national standards in regards to on time first starts and room turn overs. On-time first starts- starting on time is the first step to efficiency in the OR. Performance in this measure indicates effective inter-disciplinary and inter-departmental collaboration. Decrease turnover time- Turn over time is the amount of time required to properly exit, decontaminate, clean, and set up a room for the next case. Performance in this measure indicates effective teamwork. July 2018 July 2019On-time first starts: 65% 92%Turnover Time: 28 min 18 minIn June of 2018 Education was provided to the OR team on room turnovers and the proper way to achieve this goal to safely perform surgery while doing it efficiency including ZONE cleaning, accurate preference cards, team work. Also spent time talking about setting up the day for success by starting cases on time. The leadership team is now proposing for the 2019/2020 new metrics to include that the patient be ready in the holding area including History/physical update, consent, dressed, I.V etc. The staff has really come together to meet the goals. The hospital has saved money and increased OR minutes.
