184 - Implementing Protocol for Use of Hazardous Medications in the OR
Description: The U. S. Pharmacopeia (USP) is implementing new standards to address safe handling and administration of hazardous drugs for healthcare workers. As an academic medical center, our cancer patients are increasingly treated with chemotherapeutic agents as part of their surgical procedure with unique ways of delivering the medications. These factors have implications to the Perioperative team. In response to the new USP regulations, a detailed plan was developed and implemented to comply with regulations and keep staff safe from occupational exposure to hazardous agents. This poster will illustrate the steps that we took towards assuring compliance with new regulations to effectively care for our patients and assure staff safety in the perioperative areas.
