Description: When you look at a candidate’s Everything DiSC Workplace profile, one will notice that each of us exudes a small portion of each style listed in the circle. This equates to an ability to adapt our personalities to varying situations as we act as ambiverts, blending introvert and extrovert traits, and build on our own strengths. When attempting to hire the right individuals for a team, leaders can utilize the profile to solicit situational questions that provide insight and information on how flexible and adaptive a candidate is and times when a particular trait was utilized. When mentoring, the DISC assessment can serve as an excellent tool that deciphers traits and behavioral styles. Mentoring encompasses conveyance of a message in a way that both recipient and sender understand. Using the DISC Method, mentors can determine the learning nature and style of the mentees with whom they are paired. The mentor can then utilize the obtained knowledge by focusing on activities that assist with catering to the mentoree’s strengths, or strategically addressing any apparent weaknesses. The DISC method effectively unlocks the power to assess and capitalize personality differences within the mentoring partnership. Successful accomplishment of such is that the relationship between mentor and mentee is allowed to flourish. Description of the team: day and night weekend Registered Nurses and Surgical Technologists, weekend manager, and weekend charge nurses. Preparation and planning: Staff placement based on ability and similar learning styles.
Assessment: DISC assessment and staff needs assessment Implementation: Greater focus was placed on ensuring staff were adequately trained in the various service lines. All staff mentors and preceptors were required to participate in both a preceptor and coaching class prior to being considered as staff coaches. Yearly staff must complete this course. Outcome: increased employee engagement, job satisfaction, employee satisfaction, improved patient and physician partnerships and satisfactionImplications for Perioperative Nursing: The learners will gain better understanding of the importance of analyzing a candidate's personality and how to introduce the potential employee to the company's culture to ensure all involved parties can make the right decision. on whether to onboard or not.
