AORN celebrates the Year of the Nurse and Midwife in 2020 with an up-close look at perioperative nursing and why so many extraordinary professionals choose this specialty.

Award-winning filmmaker Carolyn Jones (American Nurse Project) takes you Behind the Mask and beyond the OR doors, unveiling the unique high-touch, high-tech perioperative world and its special appeal: Close collaborative teams. Quality patient connections. Changing lives every day.

Behind the Mask follows one family’s journey as a daughter’s organ donation saves her mother’s life – showing the essential role of surgical nurses, who spend quality time with patients at their most critical juncture. You’ll get a glimpse into the remarkable dedication happening every day on behalf of more than 100 million U.S. surgical patients each year.
