Dr. V. Venugopal, M.Sc. (Chemistry) (University of Kerala, India) and Ph.D (Biochemistry) (University of Bombay, India), started his career at the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Cochin, India, and later moved to the Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai, where he was the Head of the Seafood Technology Section of the Food Technology Division. He has been a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, and a Visiting Scientist at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. His main interests were value addition of fishery products, marine proteins and radiation processing of seafood. He has published more than 140 publications in these areas, which included research papers, review articles and book chapters. He has independently authored three books entitled ‘Seafood Processing: Adding Value through Quick-freezing, Retortable Packaging and Cook-chilling’ (Taylor & Francis, CRC Press, Florida, USA 2006), ‘Marine Products for Healthcare: Functional Compounds and Bioactive Nutraceuticals from the Ocean’ (Taylor & Francis, CRC Press, Fl., 2008) and ‘Marine Polysaccharides: Food Applications (Taylor & Francis, CRC Press, Fl. 2011). He has also several chapters in books published by CRC Press, Elsevier, Springer, Academic Press, Studium publishers, Science publishers, and others. Dr. Venugopal was invited by the Food and Agriculture Organization for a conference on seafood processing at Anchorage, Alaska in 2010. He has been on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Aquatic Food Products Technology for three years. Dr. Venugopal is a Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), New Delhi, India.
