AMUG UPDATE FROM AMUG PRESIDENT, CARL DEKKER March 5, 2020
AMUG Update: A Note About the Coronavirus, COVID-19 We look forward to seeing you at AMUG 2020, which is proceeding as planned March 22-26 at the Hilton Chicago.
But we realize there are many questions about AMUG 2020 in light of the coronavirus, so we want to take a moment to address your concerns and let you know we are paying very close attention to this ever-changing situation.
There’s no escaping the questions and concerns people may have regarding the COVID-19 outbreak and its potential impact on our upcoming conference. We discussed the issue with our Board earlier this week, and now we want to share that update with all of you.
First, the health and safety of our members, guests, exhibitors, sponsors and staff remains our number one priority. AMUG Board and leadership continue to monitor the coronavirus outbreak very closely. We are exploring various scenarios with our vendors, our resources in Chicago and the Hilton Chicago.
Safety Provisions Onsite at Hilton Chicago We are working closely with Hilton Chicago to ensure we are well prepared to hold a safe and productive conference in Chicago. Statement from Hilton Chicago:
The health and wellbeing of our guests, team members and all who visit our properties remains our highest priority.
We are actively monitoring novel coronavirus (COVID-19) updates from the WHO and CDC, and responding based on the best advice of medical professionals and public health authorities.
Hilton has established protocols in place for responding to viral outbreaks and similar incidents. If enhanced cleaning or other operational actions are required, we put those into action as per protocol (e.g., hand sanitizer stations in public areas, increased cleaning of all frequently touched areas in the hotel).
Given the evolving nature of the coronavirus, Hilton has implemented specific Coronavirus Awareness Training for all managed hotels globally.
Our hotels are open for business and are committed to ensuring the successful execution of your event.
To help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including flu and COVID-19, staff and visitors are encouraged to comply with CDC recommendations by:
Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when sick.
Cough or sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue to cover your sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
