Many exciting developments in scholarly communication efforts have significant downstream effects on libraries, and specifically technical services departments. The resource acquisition and support lifecycle that underpins much of the work of these departments does not always map to new forms of scholarship such as open access monographs. How do technical service librarians respond to innovations in scholarly publishing? What is the “last mile problem” that hinders the implementation of these innovations?
Please join us, the ALCTS Scholarly Communications Interest Group, as we discuss a variety of scenarios related to open access monograph publishing, and its effects on library workflows. Panelists from will be asked to respond to a variety of real-life scenarios and provide their view on the feasibility and implementation issues related to them. Attendees will be asked to participate to help crowdsource a list of additional stakeholders who are affected: subject librarians, researchers, budget offices, etc.
