What is SonoSlam? SonoSlam is an annual competition where teams of medical students test their ultrasound skills against other students from around the country. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams and the winning team will have their name engraved on the coveted Peter Arger Cup.
What content is covered during SonoSlam? SonoSlam is unique in that it is a multidisciplinary event. While the exact content varies annually, there are 3 rounds: Round 1 focuses on basic physics, anatomy, and physiology, Round 2 features clinical applications with gaming, and Round 3 is a head-to-head advanced knowledge contest between the top-scoring teams. We try to keep the content broad because we understand that students are often undifferentiated in regard to specialty but regularly cover thoracic, cardiac, abdominal, procedural, and OB/GYN ultrasound.
How many people are on a team and what is the registration cost? Each team should have 4 student participants--1 will serve as a scanning model for their team. This year, if you only have a team of 3, the AIUM can provide a model for you at an additional cost of $25 which is included in the registration fee. Registration opens October 15, 2019.
