Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, University of Cincinnati
Dr. von Allmen completed his general surgery training at the University of Cincinnati and his pediatric surgery training at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He served as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia before moving to the University of North Carolina in 2003 where he progressed from Associate Professor of Surgery to Professor and Surgeon-in-Chief of the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. In 2009 he returned to Cincinnati to become the Director of the Division of Pediatric General and Thoracic Surgery and Professor of Surgery with tenure in the Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. In 2015 he assumed the role of Surgeon-in-Chief and Senior Vice President for Surgical Services at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Dr. von Allmen's special clinical interests include pediatric surgical oncology, pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, esophageal disorders, surgical innovation, and surgical robotics. He has been a long term participant in the Surgical Section of the Children’s Oncology Group, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, and the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group. He holds leadership positions in several pediatric surgical societies and has authored 79 articles and 29 book chapters.
