Post-ICU Syndrome, better known as PICS, is the long-term sequelae a patient may experience following an ICU stay for a critical illness. While the exact etiology of PICS is not yet well understood, medical research has identified risk factors which make patients more susceptible to PICS. The purpose of this session is to provide long term care providers with an overview of PICS, including those risk factors, signs and symptoms, prevention and treatment.
Learning Objectives:
Identify important concepts related to PICS.
Describe how long-term care providers and healthcare professionals can manage PICS in long-term care residents.
Discuss important considerations associated with PICS and a COVID-19 positive resident.
