While competencies have been a major focus of RoP, Phase 3, the COVID-19 pandemic has put national attention on the importance of staff competencies, particularly those involving infection prevention and control skills. Federal waivers to fast track nursing assistants, pending opening of facilities to visitation, spikes in COVID-19 cases in the LTC sector, and public perception of nursing homes make competent staff a must.
This session will explore competencies needed for facility success in a COVID-19 informed world and well as those highlighted in RoP, Phase 3. Best practices and creative ways to implement competency evaluation will be shared.
Learning Objectives:
Identify three (3) COVID-19 informed competencies needed in the LTC setting.
Identify components of a competency-based training program for infection prevention.
Select two (2) creative ways to implement competency validation in the LTC setting.
