Brown University and Providence VA Medical Center research teams are leading numerous projects focusing on the novel coronavirus in skilled nursing centers. These include leveraging "big data" to understand which factors predispose nursing centers to COVID-19 outbreaks, learn how the virus spreads within facilities, and understand temperature changes and other symptoms among infected residents. Early findings range from the fact that county prevalence and facility size (not quality ratings) are the biggest predictors of positive cases to the fact that only 26.6% of residents with COVID-19 ever met temperature thresholds in the two weeks before and after screening. This session will feature presentations by Drs. Rudolph, White, and Gravenstein, focused on their latest research findings and the implications for clinical practice and operations. Ms. Baier will open the session and facilitate discussion amongst the presenters.

Identify clinical presentation of COVID-19 among nursing center residents.
Describe how to protect yourself and residents from asymptomatic individuals with COVID during the winter.
