Effective communication and collaboration with state partners and other stakeholders has never been more important. Association and Provider goals to advance person-directed, high quality care do not have to be in opposition to those of state agency leadership, surveyors or policy makers. Promoting a culture that values both compliance and quality improvement is foundational to the development of cross-setting strategies and goals that ensure the beneficiary (resident) remains the focus. In this session, GHCA leadership will share both challenges and successes they have encountered as the Association has intentionally embraced an approach of Stronger Together to engage leadership and forge relationships to benefit members and those they serve.

Learning Objectives:

Discuss the importance of building an effective and mutually beneficial relationship with key stakeholders including: Department of Community Health/DHHS, Department of Public Health, State Survey Agency, ombudsman, advocacy groups and other stakeholders.
Identify 1-2 strategies or best practices for engaging with various agencies and starting the conversation.
Describe how to strategically leverage relationships within Legislative and Executive circles of influence to achieve broader aims related to areas such as policy and reimbursement.
