This course is designed to update dental hygienists on the latest guidelines from the CDC and OSHA regarding the resumption of dental hygiene treatment and maximizing safety for patients and the hygienists who treat them. Discussion topics include screening patients, selection of appropriate PPE, controlling aerosols and changes needed in patient scheduling.
Describe CDC recommended screening procedures for patients who are scheduled for treatment
Identify personal protective equipment needed for protecting hygienists from exposure to COVID-19
Discuss various methods and devices for controlling aerosols generated by ultrasonic scalers
Perform appropriate donning and doffing of PPE
Design a schedule for patient treatment that allows adequate time for clearing of potentially infectious aerosols
