America is experiencing a rapid increase in the aging population, with a rising number of people living 80, 90 and 100+ years. While most of this population is healthy and active, a growing number of older adults face barriers to obtaining oral health care, including mobility challenges, complex medical problems and cognitive impairment. This session will focus on how best to prepare dental students to recognize, assess and treat older adults with the goal of helping all patients maintain a lifetime of optimal oral health.
Understand lessons learned from oral health research of centenarians.
Recognize the impact of root caries on treatment planning for older adults.
Identify the impact of oral health care on patients at end of life.
