PA-116 - Social Work and Dentistry: An Interprofessional Match Made in Heaven
Saturday, March 14, 2020
1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
The health care community has been touting the benefits of Interprofessional Education (IPE) for years. While the benefits are undebatable, implementation of IPE can prove challenging. Making the leap from IPE to Interprofessional Practice (IPP) can seem insurmountable, especially in the field of dentistry. Moreover, how can we best prepare students for future-ready, person-centered practice? One very logical, yet often overlooked, collaboration is that of dentistry with social work. In this professional development workshop, we will explore an innovative way to integrate IPP within current clinical models by way of a unique partnership with the social work profession.
Describe the role a social worker plays in improving patient health outcomes.
Connect social determinants of health to oral health outcomes.
Identify ways behavioral sciences education can be integrated and enhanced at participants’ institutions.
