ET-100 - A Pathway to Enhanced Dental Education: Virtual 3D models
Sunday, March 15, 2020
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
CE: 1
New generations of dental students are accustomed to having technology imbedded in their lives. Therefore, dental education should incorporate digital technology in order to engage this generation of dental students. This session describes a novel technique of using open access software to generate custom made 3D models that can be used to enhance learning and engagement in many different disciplines. The sessions will also present the results of a research initiative that assessed the effectiveness of this method during a removable partial denture course for D2 students, by using students’ feedback and grades comparing 3D models versus traditional paper-based RPD design.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the importance of using new technology to improve student engagement.
Develop 3D models for use in different disciplines in the dental curriculum.
Apply and assess a 3D model learning strategy in their courses.
