PA-100 - Games and Gamification: Learning Fun From Preclinic to Clinic!
Monday, March 16, 2020
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Game-based learning and gamification stimulates the reward center of the brain and helps convert new information into long-term memory. Also, using games for learning is consistent with best practices and adult learning theory. At NYU College of Dentistry, a learning card game was developed to enhance diagnosis and management skills in Orthodontics. A game-based learning tool called Kahoot! is being used at Tufts University to engage students and encourage them to integrate basic sciences in clinical settings. At the University of the Pacific, gamification using the PollEverywhere competition feature was introduced into clinic huddles so students can review and retain relevant content. This session explores approaches using interactive gaming elements to make learning fun.
