PA-124 - Pharmacists in Oral Health: An Interprofessional and Systemic Health Approach
Sunday, March 15, 2020
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
CE: 1
Access to health care is a persistent determinant of health outcomes of adults with diabetes. Oral manifestations, such as periodontitis, can be exacerbated among patients with diabetes. In many instances, pharmacists are the only medical professional seen on a regular basis by patients with diabetes. This educational seminar will describe an institution’s effort to better understand the learning needs of pharmacy students around oral health and diabetes. You will also learn about Medical University of South Carolina students’ perspectives, along with how we designed and delivered an educational module to enhance the efficacy of pharmacy students around oral health care and diabetes.
Learning Objectives:
Consider the perspectives of current pharmacy students about oral health and diabetes.
Reflect on the design of an educational module developed to strengthen oral health and diabetes efficacy among pharmacy and dental students.
Identify strategies to codify interprofessional oral health learning opportunities to enhance oral health and diabetes management.
