60 Minute Workshop
PA-122 - Having a Heart Attack in Class: Designing High-fidelity Simulation Encounters
Monday, March 16, 2020
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
CE: 1
A surprise discordant clinical event at the start of a classroom presentation can springboard and scaffold discussion and hold student attention for the entire session and beyond. This workshop focuses on the creation process for a simulation scenario, integrating basic science principles and patient care, delivered as part of a large classroom session. Participants will be led through the process of designing/implementing a similar encounter at their home institution. By the end of this session, participants will understand the challenges implicit in the development and delivery of complex simulation activities and explore methods to find solutions and preempt potential issues.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the design of a simulation encounter and how basic science principles and clinical practice can be integrated.
Solve challenges and issues in implementing a simulation scenario.
Produce an expected workflow document for a simulation scenario that can be implemented at their respective home institution.
