The purpose of this session is to discuss a faculty development needs assessment effort undertaken by the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (Columbia CDM). The goal of this needs assessment was to strategically support faculty development by understanding the key priorities of junior faculty members and their alignment with the broader goals and mission of Columbia CDM. Participants will learn about the key themes that emerged as opportunities to enhance support of junior faculty members in their role and as professionals in the field. Participants will also discuss challenges and opportunities in fostering alignment between faculty-identified priorities and program-/department-/institution-level goals.
Learning Objectives:
Describe general evidence-based best practices in faculty development.
Utilize strategies to identify key components of a faculty development program for their home institutions.
Demonstrate how current faculty development practices are aligned with broader program goals at their home institutions.
