Developing caring and competent dentists is an ambitious undertaking for students, staff and faculty. Inevitably some students struggle to the point where extra learning strategies are required. Welcome to the world of remediation. The big picture goal of this workshop is to guide participants towards more effective coaching of struggling learners. Specifically this workshop will inform participants of the body of research in remediation which includes learning deficit diagnosis, learning plan development, assessment, monitoring growth and creating a remediation team approach. Participants will discuss their current challenges and successes and engage in small group case studies using the workshop model.
Learning Objectives:
Develop a learning diagnosis for the struggling student.
Outline the elements required for a successful remediation plan.
Describe the features of an effective remediation program.
