45 Minute Small Group Discussion
SP-103 - From ADEA/ADCFP to Becoming a Dental Educator: Closing the Loop (Limited to 10 participants only)
Sunday, March 15, 2020
2:00 PM – 2:45 PM
CE: .75
As dental students, we learn how to become good clinicians, but for some of us the pathway leads us to another adventure called teaching. The ADEA Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program (ADEA/ADCFP) gives dental students the opportunity to acquire knowledge about a teaching dental career early on in our education. Presently, we are closing the loop from ADEA/ADCFP Fellows to being recruited as junior faculty at the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine. Participants in this small group discussion will learn how mentorship, leadership and early exposure to teaching experience motivates students in the pursuit of a teaching career.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the pathways and challenges in the pursuit of an academic career.
Identify the importance of a good academic performance and effective leadership.
Explain what motivates dental students to pursue an academic career.
