SA-100 - Walk in Their Shoes: A New Road to Dental Education
Monday, March 16, 2020
10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
CE: 1
Professional school success is related to personal interactions, self-efficacy, student stress, and support mechanisms. Many of these factors are directly influenced by the students’ social/cultural experiences. These life experiences are reflected in ADEA’s definition of diversity. The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University has added several leadership, professionalism and ethics courses throughout the new eight-semester curriculum. The courses include activities that promote open dialogue of social/cultural experiences as well as a survey to investigate demographics, potential adverse events, use of campus auxiliaries and areas of potential stress related to these experiences.
Learning Objectives:
Consider what social/culture experiences mean to current dental students.
Create strategies to address unmet needs of dental students.
Reflect upon the CODA Standards for humanistic environments.
