A-102 - Mining "axiUm": Researching Survival Rates in a Dental School Environment

Mining clinical management software, axiUmTm, for research data opens a gold mine of information for treatment survival rates and, therefore, opens the door to research question generation in the clinical areas of various dental disciplines. The successful use of dental school management software data is presented in a B.Sc. (Dent) project format from published research in the survival rates of restorative procedures in a dental school environment. The completion of each project opens the door to more questions for further study with each new student interested in that area as a B.Sc. (Dent) project.
Learning Objectives:
Mine research data from clinical records found in Axium, clinical management software.
Generate research questions for data mining.
Describe how this can be applied to dental education.
