A-104 - Programming for Success When Changing Admissions Processes: Why and How
Tuesday, March 17, 2020
8:30 AM – 9:30 AM
CE: 1
The 2017 ADEA Policy Statement on Admissions called for procedures designed to identify students with superior personal competencies, a daunting task given the paucity of such validated procedures and the difficulty of effecting change. In 2019, two dental schools—University of Utah School of Dentistry and Indiana University School of Dentistry—implemented an online situational judgment test, CASPer, as a requirement for all applicants. Programming for success when changing processes is described through each school’s unique case study, arguments for and against change, and how data collection, early outcomes of feasibility, acceptability and diversity, can potentiate the process of change.
Learning Objectives:
Consider the potential obstacles to admissions process change in their local institutions and how to address them.
Differentiate between the different stakeholder groups and how the “buy-in” process may differ between groups.
Identify what data is collectible and useful in driving change and in monitoring its effectiveness.
