PE-104 - Pathway to Competency in Evidence-based Practice
Sunday, March 15, 2020
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
CE: 1
Dental school graduates must be competent in the use of critical thinking and problem-solving, and be able to access, critically appraise, apply and communicate scientific and lay literature as it relates to providing evidence-based patient care. The pathway incorporates a variety of domains, including knowledge, skills and attitudes with the goal of making clinical decisions informed by the most relevant and valid evidence available while combining that information with the patient's needs and preferences. Assessing all those skills can be a challenge and vary in different schools. The presentation will share the current dental school experiences and pathways used to assess evidence-based dentistry competency.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the approaches and challenges of evidence-based dentistry teaching and competency assessment for undergraduate students.
Conduct activities to promote faculty engagement and calibration for EBD.
Communicate different types of competency assessment in dental schools.
