Design thinking is a mindset and methodology that engages in creative problem-solving strategies to describe problems and create novel solutions. Design thinking is becoming popular in health professions education to spark innovation and address significant challenges. Through this workshop, you will learn about design thinking process, which includes three phases—inspiration, ideation and implementation. You will explore how design thinking can be applied to a variety of problems such as supporting curriculum redesign, improving classroom experiences and refining assessment approaches. You will leave the session prepared to tackle wicked problems with an innovative problem-solving process.
Learning Objectives:
Outline the three phases of the design thinking process—inspiration, ideation and implementation.
Identify strategies that can be used to support each phase of the design thinking process.
Explore how design thinking can be applied to problems in their institution.
