60 Minute Workshop
PA-120 - Active Learning: The Pathway to Superior Knowledge
Tuesday, March 17, 2020
8:30 AM – 9:30 AM
CE: 1
The future in dental education is not rooted in passive, lecture-style teaching, but rather in active techniques that result in deeper learning and long-term retention. These techniques require different, more dynamic roles for faculty members and learners. This 90-minute workshop will apply hands-on, active learning techniques so that participants experience how to engage active learning techniques in their own classrooms, labs and clinics. Topics will include definitions, instructor and student roles, developing activities, and assessing learner performance and the success of activities used. Educators will leave the session understanding how to create pathways forward using active learning in their learning communities.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the benefits of incorporating active learning into teaching through analyzing and assessing learning activities and their effectiveness.
Compare and contrast instructor and student roles in traditional versus active learning environments.
Synthesize workshop content to develop a plan to incorporate active learning in their own teaching.
