W-103 - Using Climate Surveys to Enhance Diversity and Inclusion Effectiveness
Tuesday, March 17, 2020
8:30 AM – 9:30 AM
Climate surveys are an essential tool for pursuing deliberate strategies to build and sustain a diverse and inclusive community in dental education. They provide a pathway to enhance everyone’s opportunity to engage and succeed in institutions. Results can be used to determine opportunities for remediation/support, and to identify promising practices that can be replicated across dental schools.
With the support of the ADEA Section on Minority Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion, this session will introduce the use of climate surveys and show how their results can benefit faculty/staff professional development, student enrichment and overall institutional effectiveness.
Identify the need and utility of a climate survey tool for the enhancement of humanistic culture.
Assess and evaluate case studies and scenarios on how to conduct climate studies.
Describe best practices for the implementation of these studies and explore methods of utilizing a climate survey tool at participants’ institutions.
