PA-105 - Bridge the Gap: Use Simulation to Team With Interpreters
Sunday, March 15, 2020
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
A clinical training gap exists at the juncture of cultural competence, patient safety and interprofessional education. Focusing on challenges faced by limited English proficient (LEP) patients particularly related to communication in our care settings, we will present an innovative simulation-based training for students that can bridge that gap by embracing interpreters as interprofessional partners in care. You will experience one aspect of being an interpreter, learn how to use Start-Stop-Rewind methods in simulation-based education and be able to use the developed educational materials in training students in your own institutions.
Discuss care challenges for patients with limited proficiency in English.
Describe the role of the trained interpreter as a health care team member.
Explain Rapid Cycle Deliberative Practice (Start-Stop-Rewind) methodology.
