Monday, March 16, 2020
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
CE: 1
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provides grant funding to thirteen sites nationally to educate and empower cohorts of undergraduate scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds interested in health care professions. The cornerstone is the academic enrichment and career exploration curriculum. Each site is encouraged to personalize their program using their universities’ strengths and resources. This session presents models detailing different dental schools’ approach to assisting undergraduates in achieving their goals. The presentation includes a discussion on the philosophy behind the development of each individualized academic enrichment plan and dental pathway programs. Participants will learn how colleges can create their own preprofessional education programs.
Learning Objectives:
Develop an outline to assist their summer program planning
Explain the decision-making process used to develop successful academic enrichment programs for future dentist from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds.
Discuss challenges involved in developing a summer enrichment program, and identify potential solutions using university and community partners.
