PE-102 - Dental Sleep Medicine at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry

This session focuses on dental sleep medicine education. The general content will rely on 1) evidence-based meta-analyses and systematic reviews that can serve as a backbone for building consensus and a unified educational curriculum; 2) the role of dental educators and dental research in proactively forming the future practice of dental sleep medicine; and 3) the roles of universities, CODA, ADEA and other nonprofit organizations in this evolving discipline. Outcomes will include discussing and identifying the roles for dental research in defining the discipline, and identifying roles and methods that dental school faculty can play in creating the future for this discipline.
Learning Objectives:
Identify challenges facing the standardization of dental training in dental sleep medicine.
List various ways the practice of dental sleep medicine may be standardized if not broaden in the future.
Describe how standards are changing in the field, e.g., medicare policies, digital dentistry
