Court decisions can have an important effect on the law, policy and executive action. Legal decisions impacting the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and immigration have been prominent over the past year. The non-enforcement of the individual mandate tax penalty effectively voids the individual mandate, and consequently, threatens the sustainability of the Affordable Care Act. Opponents of the law are legally challenging its validity and are seeking its nullification. Additionally, with Congress’ decision to not address immigration reform, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients turned to the court system to challenge the Trump administration’s decision to end the program. The final outcomes of these legal challenges will impact our health care and educational system for years to come. ADEA will bring together experts to discuss the scope and applicability of these cases to academic dentistry. This session will focus on legal cases and their potential impact on health care and higher education.
