This laboratory is designed for the general practitioner who wants to enhance his or her efficiency and efficacy in performing a number of common abdominal procedures in the small animal patient. Techniques covered include the following:
• A truly thorough abdominal exploration
• Safe and effective opening and closing of luminal structures
• Obtaining good biopsies of abdominal organs
• Incisional gastropexy, omentalization, feeding tube placement, and trans-diaphragmatic cardiac massage
Procedures are performed on canine cadavers. This laboratory is led by board-certified surgeons with a passion for teaching and a desire to share the tips and tricks not taught in veterinary school. With hands-on cadaver practice and individual feedback, participants are more confident in their ability to fully assess an abdomen and comfortably perform a variety of common abdominal procedures for their patients.
