Tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy (TPLO) surgery is often performed for treatment of the cruciate-deficient stifle in large breed dogs and is increasingly being performed in small breed dogs and cats. Special considerations during TPLO surgery must be made in some patients. This course addresses decision-making and surgical techniques used to treat concurrent MPL and ACL disease, femoral and tibial deformity, ACL disease, excessive tibial plateau slope, arthroscopic-assisted TPLO, and TPLO in small breed dogs and cats. Benefits of TPLO over extracapsular repair are also discussed. Participants use the Synthes locking TPLO plate and instrumentation on plastic bones and canine cadavers.
