Presentation Description / Session Abstract: Para/tetraplegic dogs can be challenging to manage and frequently require a team approach to get patients up and moving. Integration of various therapeutic modalities may improve outcomes as well as reduce the need for opioid medications. Understanding when and how to implement physical rehabilitation exercises, acupuncture, electrical stimulation and laser after or in lieu of surgery is important. Although physical medicine is generally safe when done with trained professionals, some modalities are specifically contraindicated in certain diseases.
Learning Objectives:
describe indications and contraindications for application of specfic modalities in rehabilitating neurologic conditions
describe non-pharmaceutical alternatives for pain management
