Veterinary medicine is filled with ups and downs. While many of us are trained on how to performs skills and discuss cases, it is only recently that communication skills have been looked at. With compassion fatigue and burn out plaguing the industry, it is important to know what they are, and how they change our interactions. It is also important to recognize grief and the way it impacts understanding. This session delves into defining grief, as well as anticipatory grief, and how to work through it. It also goes through various types of communication and how to get your message through.

Define grief, anticipatory grief, compassion fatigue, and burnout.
Recognize symptoms of compassion fatigue and burn out, as well as learn how to recover.
Recognize verbal and nonverbal forms of communication and be able to convey their message appropriately.
