Presentation Description / Session Abstract: Studies in both human, and animal fields are showing a correlation between the microbiomes and diseases. Nutrition plays a role in developing the microbiome, by providing appropriate or inappropriate nutrients to intestinal microbiota. This lecture will discuss the ways nutrition can benefit, or be detrimental to microbiota, and look into options of where diet changes may be beneficial. Current research, and a brief overview of products in the industry that may be beneficial will be reviewed.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to recognize and list at least three body systems microbiota affect creating homeostasis within their host. This includes demonstrating how the microbiota may function to affect the host in the different systems.
Upon completion, participant will be able to demonstrate an awareness of how often inflammation affects the body either initating or in part of many disease processes, and dysbiosis is present in inflammatory disease processes. They will be able to list three diseases that are affected by inflammation and dysbiosis.
Upon completing, participant will be able to list five appropriate and at least two inappropriate types of nutrients that can influence the microbiota.
