Martin Sillence has been active in large animal research since 1982, focusing on equine science since 1996. After leading numerous projects in equine nutrition, parasitology, immunology and forensics, Sillence turned his attention to endocrinopathic laminitis in 2002. His contributions include the insight that endocrinopathic laminitis is caused by hyperinsulinaemia (2007), the development of a dietary model and risk framework (2018), identification of a preventive (2018), development of a new diagnostic procedure (2019), a recovery model (2020), and the invention of a therapeutic antibody (2020).
