Pediatric autoimmune diseases: Kawasaki disease, juvenile dermatomyositis and juvenile localized scleroderma
How can pediatric rheumatologists worldwide develop viable channels for collaboration to tackle the known and yet-to-be-known complications of COVID-19 infection in children? A small but growing population of children and teens infected with COVID-19 develop severe multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), also called pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS), a condition similar to Kawasaki disease or a toxic-shock-like syndrome. In this exciting session, experts from Italy, Canada and the United States will share their first-hand experiences with these mysterious COVID-associated inflammatory syndromes in pediatric patients. Talks will explore potential disease mechanisms that offer important clues to managing these conditions in young patients.
